About Carol Nichols

Carol Nichols
Hello!  I am Carol Nichols, artist, book designer and calligrapher behind An Illustrated and Illuminated Manuscript of the Gospel of Thomas.  I have an extensive background in the calligraphic arts, with advanced training in Greek Uncial and Chancery Italic letterforms, as well as various forms of Gothic, Foundational and numerous modern scripts.  I am also an experienced watercolorist and a book designer at the introductory level.

I have taught art  and design at a local community college for eight years, and have given classes in watercolor and calligraphy to various groups for about twenty years.  I have two Master's degrees:  one in Health Services Research from the University of Rochester, and one in Humanities with a concentration in Fine Art from California State University at Dominguez Hills.  The Thomas manuscript was completed as a thesis project for the Humanities degree, along with an in-depth research review of literature and ideas in Early Christian Studies and Art Design.

Currently, I live in Quincy, IL with my husband Alan, and am a member of both the Quincy Artists Guild and the St. Louis Calligraphy Guild.  I am also an adjunct faculty member of Culver-Stockton College's Division of Humanities and Social Sciences  in Canton, MO.  Eventually, I hope to use the profits from the Gospel of Thomas and other works to fund projects that are directed towards women's education and enterprises in countries with developing economies.
